Barbara T. Smith, 93, of Elverson, PA, formerly of New Castle, passed away March 21, 2018 at her sons residence in Elverson. Born February 5, 1925 in Perth Amboy, NJ, she was the daughter of Versal and Marie Slaninko Post. She was preceded in death on August 30, 2009 by her husband of 59 years, Robert D. Smith, whom she married September 18, 1949. A graduate of Harlansburg High School, Barbara attended New Castle Business School. She was formerly employed with First Seneca Bank, Stretch & Sew, and Lawrence Savings and Trust. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of New Castle. Barbara is survived by her son Gary S. Smith of Elverson, PA; one sister, Marie Ellen Knass of Zelienople; and three grandchildren, Corinne Smith, Stephen Smith and Mia Smith. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dean R. Smith; three sisters, Ruth Long, Josephine Perkins and Beverly McCommons; and one brother, Joseph Post. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis A. Blauser officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
