Berryl Nunn Fox was born on November 12, 1916 to William Madison and Pearl Nunn. New Castle, Pennsylvania was her home for most of her life, moving to Canton, Ohio, in 2004. She entered into Glory on January 28, 2015. Berryl was married to William B. Fox on July 3, 1936 at the First Presbyterian Church in New Castle. He passed in 2003 after 67 years of marriage. She had 5 siblings: William Nunn II, Vivian Nunn, Grace Joyce, Jeen Nunn, all deceased, and Edna Taylor of Toledo, OH. She had one step-sister, Mary Lyle, also deceased. She was an excellent student, having won the Daughters of the American Revolution award in her 8th grade year. She graduated from New Castle High School in 1934. Berryl was active in the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, was both an Elder and Deacon, was a faithful member of the Berean Bible Class, and headed the coffee hour for many years. She also volunteered with Jameson Hospital Guild, and earlier with 4H, Girl Scouts, [cookie chairman for several years], YWCA board and Camp Eastbrook committee, Neshannock PTA, and with Meals on Wheels until age 87. Berryl and Bill were charter members of the New Castle Camera Club and worked at the Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts in many capacities. Attending Westminster College at age 60, she was able to outshine many of the college age students! She used her education to help struggling readers at Walmo School which was across the street from their Buena Vista residence. She passed on to her family her sewing skills, her belief in the importance of independent intellectual growth, her passion for volunteering, and love of sharing wonderful food, beautifully presented. In Canton, Ohio, Berryl attended Reedurban Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her children, Sherron (Dr. Robert) Collins of Spring Lake, MI; Pamela (Martin) Obed of Kalamazoo, MI; Nancy (David) Scott of Atlanta, GA; Wendy (Rick) Lichtenwalter of Canton, OH; and William B. (Michelle) Fox II of Copley, OH. Berryl is also survived by her grandchildren, Gregory (Cat) Collins of Coopersville, MI; Susannah Keita of Phoenix, AZ; David Macala of Cincinnati, OH; Anne (Tony) Fries Columbus, OH; Carolyn Macala, Columbus OH; Lisa (Michael) Nunney, Medina, OH; Jamie Fox, Copley, OH; great-grandchildren Kany Keita, Claire and Jack Nunney, and Owen Fries, and 6 nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Canton Regency and Harbor Light Hospice for their continuing loving care of Berryl. Interment will be at Castleview Cemetery, New Castle, PA. Calling hours will be held at R. Cunningham Funeral Home on Wilmington Road on Friday, Feb. 6 from 1-3 PM with a homegoing service at 3 PM conducted by Rev. Lynn Shetzer of Canton Reedurban Presbyterian Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the William B. and Berryl N. Fox Memorial Scholarship at Westminster College, New Wilmington, PA, or to a charity of your choice.
