Clara L. McConnell, age 88, of Slippery Rock Township, passed away March 18, 2016 at her residence. Born March 31, 1927 in Slippery Rock, PA, she was the daughter of S. Balph and Sarah A. Barkley McElwain. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Howard L. McConnell, whom she married June 3, 1948. A 1945 graduate of Princeton High School, Clara was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading. She was a lifelong member of Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Jeffrey H. and Dorinda McConnell of Fredericksburg, VA., and Alan L. and Kim McConnell of Camp Hill, PA; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Clarence, Walter, Carl and Norman McElwain; and two sisters, Ethel Leonhardt and Lucy Magee. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Rose Point Reformed Presbyterian Church located at 1166 Church Alley, New Castle, PA 16101. The Rev. Charles Brown will officiate.
