Doris M. Tharpe, 88, formerly of Kathleen Drive, New Castle, passed away on May 12, 2013, at 9:20 a.m. in Lawrence County Geri Care, New Castle. Doris was born in Eastbrook on July 8, 1924 to the late Raymond and Blanche Moore Maxwell.She was a graduate of Eastbrook High School. On December 3, 1943, Doris married Howard Tharpe. They were married for 37 years until his death on August 8, 1981. Doris was a homemaker and a member of the Jameson Aid Society. She was also a member of the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church in New Castle were she loved to do mission work with the ladies group there at the church. Doris is survived by one daughter, Charlene Dublin of Pittsburgh, PA; and three sons and daughters in-law, Wesley and Patricia Tharpe of New Castle, Terry and Gloria Tharpe of Indianapolis, IN, and Perry and Nancy Tharpe of Erie, PA; one sister, Lucille Young of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, and husband, Howard, she was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Cox; two brothers, Delbert and Malcolm Maxwell; and one son in-law, Robert C. Dublin.Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, from 5:00 till 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Chris Curtis of the New Covenant Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1911 Harlansburg Road, New Castle PA 16101.
