Harry James Jim White, age 94, of New Castle, passed away the night of October 21, 2018 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born February 5, 1924 in New Castle, PA, he was the son of Harry and Mary Ellen (Zimmerman) White. He was preceded in death in 1992 by his first wife, Ruth (Sellers) White, whom he married in 1949. He subsequently married Evelyn Stinmetz Gorley White in 1994. She survives at their home in New Castle. A 1942 graduate of New Castle High School, Jim went on to serve his country in the U.S.Navy from 1943-1946 aboard the D.E. 579 USS Riley. After fulfilling his enlistment, he began employment with United Engineering from 1946-1955 and with Wean Manufacturing in Warren, Ohio from 1955-1972. He then owned and operated the Riverview Inn in New Castle for 18 years from 1974 to 1992. Jim and his wife Evelyn loved to play golf and joined a senior couples league at Rolling Hills Golf Course. Jim also enjoyed bowling and liked playing the banjo for Challenges Singers for more than 20 years. He was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott White and James White; one daughter, Ruth Ellen Data; two step-daughters, Janet (Ronald) Micaletti and Lynn Bartlett; two step-sons, Mark (Peggy) Gorley and Scott (Tina) Gorley; 9 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one sister, Margaret and one brother, William; one son, Wesley White; and a step-son-in-law, Ronald Bartlett. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 24, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 25, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Steve Plyler officiating. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
