Helen L. Palmer, 86, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of September 2, 2015 at the Avalon Nursing Center. Born March 24, 1929 in New Castle, she was the daughter of John M and Helen L. Huff Singer. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Q. Palmer, Sr. whom she married in October of 1946. Helen attended New Castle High School, she was employed as a Secrectary for Dr. Dave and Sam Perry of New Castle. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed singing in the choir. Helen is survived by one daughter, Marlene (Marcie) Nelson of New Castle; two sons, James Q. Palmer, Jr. of Pittsboro, NC. and Cloyde "Ted" Palmer of New Castle; four brothers, Richard Singer, Leroy Eugene Singer, Samuel E. Singer, all from New Castle, and William Wendell Singer of Butler, Pa.; one sister, Sally Scanlon of Las Vegas; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John M. and Robert Singer; and one sister, Georgetta Sadler. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 11-1 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Andrew Jillson officiating. Burial will be at Castle View Gardens.
