L. Jean Jacob, 86, of New Castle passed away the morning of Dec. 31, 2013 at the Greer House. Born Sept. 11, 1927 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Harry and Mary Mayberry Kelly. Jean married Eugene Jacob Nov. 4, 1948. He passed away June 15, 2005. She graduated from Shenango High School in 1945 and Jameson Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. In 1964 Jean earned a bachelor's degree for public school nurses from Slippery Rock University. Jean was a registered nurse for the New Castle Area School District for 30 years, and for eight of those 30 years she was the head nurse of the school medical department. A member of Hoover Heights Christian and Missionary Alliance Church since 1948, she was very active in the church and Sunday school. She was a member of the Hoover Heights Alliance Women and the Sparklers group at First Baptist Church. Jean is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bradley E. and Sharon Jacob of Nashville, TN; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Susan Kelly of Englishtown, NJ; two grandchildren, Matt Jacob and Rachelle Ellis; and four great grandchildren, Sage Rogers, Ariella, Analeis and Benjamin Bradley Ellis. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Kelly; and a sister, Dorothy Tillia. Visitation will be Saturday, January 4, 2014, from 10 a.m.- noon at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. 2429 Wilmington Rd. A funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, January 4, 2014, immediately following visitation. The Rev. Larry Llewellyn will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
