Margaret Fredina DeHaven Smith Hawthorne died Monday, November 4, 2019 at the Colonial Courtyard Personal Care Home, in Clearfield, Pa. Dene, as she was known, was born on September 18, 1932 in Barnesboro, Pa. She was the daughter to the late James Blanford and Martha Adeline (Good) DeHaven. She married Charles Edgar Smith on October 2, 1948, whom preceded her in death on Dec. 31, 1967. Dene subsequently married Irvin E. Hawthorne, of Eastbrook Pa., on Feb. 11, 1978. He preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 2012. Dene obtained her GED in 1966 and graduated from the Choffin School of Practical Nursing, in Youngstown, Ohio. She worked many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse in area nursing homes and at Jameson Hospital, in New Castle, Pa. In her earlier years, Dene enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She attended the Hoover Heights C&MA church in New Castle, Pa. Survivors include daughters, Phyllis Lynn (Hiram) Westover and Sharon Lee Thompson, one step-daughter Diane (Frank) Stultz and 12 grandchildren. Along with her parents, first and second husbands, Dene is preceded in death by one son, James Charles Smith who preceded her in death on Sept. 23, 2013 and one son-in-law, Robert Thompson who preceded her in death on July 25, 2015. In keeping with Dene's wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16th at 11:00 a.m. at the Hoover Heights Alliance Church, 1947 Morris St., New Castle, PA 16102, with the Rev. Larry Llewellyn officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery located in New Castle, Pa. Arrangements have been entrusted to the R.
