Paul Herman Reed, 94, of Shenango on The Green, New Wilmington,PA., passed away the morning of November 3, 2015 at Shenango Presbyterian SeniorCare. Born December 1, 1920 in Hegins, PA. He was the son of Rufus and Augusta Stutzman Reed. He was preceded in death on July 18, 2011 by his wife, Helen Louise Schmidle Reed, whom he married July 12, 1947. Paul was a 1938 graduate of Hegins Twp. High School. He was also a 1942 graduate of Pennsylvania State University, with a degree in Ceramic Science and Engineering. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served in WWII. Paul was employed in 1947 as a Ceramic Engineer for New Castle Refractories Co. Then, in 1963 he became the Vice President and General Manager of the New Castle Refractories Division of the Joseph Dixon Crucible Co. After 38 years, he retired in 1985. Paul served on several boards such as: First Western Bank, Jameson Hospital, Refactories Institute and the Penna. Ceramics Association. He was a member of New Castle Country Club and the Lawrence Club. Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he also served on Session and on the Board of Trustees. He is survived by one daughter, Judith (Martin) Tjiattas of Cherry Hill, NJ; two sons, Paul Douglas (April Smith) Reed of Dacula, GA, and Joel G. (Kim Boeshore) Reed of Breckenridge, CO; 6 grandchildren, Christopher P. Tjiattas, Lindsay R. Saleski, Grant B. Reed, Nicholas P. Reed, Jennifer Hooper, and Chelsea Nix; 2 great-grandchildren, Madeline Saleski, and Jarrett Hooper. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, Norman R. Reed; and one sister, Mildred T. Reed. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. ,2429 Wilmington Road. Full military rites will be performed by New Castle Area Honor Guard following visitation at 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev.
