Robert S. Unangst, age 91 , of New Castle went to be with the Lord on Saturday November 19th, 2016 at the Jameson Care Center with his family at his side. Born March 25, 1925 in New Castle he was the son of the late Roy and Mable Rhyal Unangst. He married the former Geraldine V. List on February 7, 1945. She preceded him in death on December 7th, 2013. Robert graduated from Edinburg High School, than joined the Army, where he served as a corporal during World War II, He was assigned to the Military Police and was given the honor of guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. He returned home from the service and took a job with Carbon Limestone Company working on their maintenance crew for 35 years. He retired in 1981. Robert's true love was carpentry and wood working. He had a wood shop behind his house where he built and repaired furniture foe friends and neighbors. He also built his own home by hand. Robert also enjoyed Hunting and Traveling. He loved his family and his God. Robert was a member of the First Assembly of God church where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Keenagers Group. He is survived by a daughter Kathy and her husband David Bronson of Warren Ohio, a son Terry and his wife Lynn Unangst of New Castle, three grandchildren Greg (Kathleen) Bronson, Brett (Amanda) Unangst and Todd (Meredith) Bronson and three great-grandchildren Ben, Jane and Camden Bronson. In addition to his parents and wife Robert was preceded in death by four sisters Helen Ernst, Virginia Cyrus Jane Kerr and Pearl Roberts. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at the R. Cunningham and Funeral home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington rd. New Castle. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am from the funeral home with the Rev. Chad Stoecker officiating. Full military honors will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the City Rescue Mission 319 S. Croton Ave. New Castle Pa. 16101.
