Obituary

Stella Blair, age 94, passed away peacefully in her home on August 21, 2018 with family and long time friend-caregiver Nain Shreffler by her side. Stella was the second of seven daughters born to Gregory and Bessie (Economopoulos) Christos, who were Greek immigrants. Her father Gregory was the former owner operator of the P.O. Lunch eatery at its first location in downtown New Castle, PA on South Jefferson Street. A resident of New Castle since 1936, Stella was married to the late Warren E. Blair of Wurtemburg, PA from 1957 until his unexpected death on June 14, 1994. Together, Stella and Warren owned Blair's Automotive Equipment Company in Union Township, PA. Prior to Stella's marriage she worked for Judge Matthews in New Castle, PA. Stella was a kind, compassionate and giving person. She was intelligent, had a big heart, infectious personality and unforgettable smile. She loved life, her Greek family and close friends. Stella was very proud of her Greek heritage. She savored spending time with her Greek family, enjoyed Greek dancing, the rich Greek food and pastries, listening to Greek music and spoke Greek fluently. She was a true lover of all types of animals and cared for her beloved dog Sparky. Stella often spent weekends at her former campgrounds that she personally owned in Venango County, PA where she would relax and fish. She created a college trust named CRUT, Charitable Remainder Unit Trust, through Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH to provide financial assistance for students for their college tuition fees. Stella is survived by a notable amount of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ethel Warren, Eve Vogan, Christine Harper, Mary Kohler, Pauline Jackson and Helen Gerris. Stella will always be remembered for her kindness, strength and selflessness towards others. She will be deeply, deeply missed by her Greek family, friends and all the wonderful caretakers and staff members from Allegheny Health Network, Home Helpers and Compassionate Care. There will be a one hour visitation Sunday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Memorial Service will be held immediately following the visitation at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Fr. Michael Gavrilos. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society or the Allegheny Health Network Hospice. Online condolences may be offered at www.cunninghamfh.com
