Obituary

Abe Shansky, 92, of New Castle, passed away the morning of November 23, 2010 at the Avalon Nursing Center.Abe was born on June 16, 1918 in Beaver Falls to David and Ida Rosenberg Shansky. He married Irene Greenberg Shansky on August 11, 1946. She passed away on August 30, 2001.Abe served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was owner of Dave Shansky & Sons Auto Sales, Wrecking, and Salvage. Abe was a member of Temple Hadar Israel.He is survived by three sons and four daughters-in-law, Morris L. and Thelma J. Shansky, of New Castle, Robert P. and Ann Shansky, of East Liverpool, OH, Howard and Bonnie Shansky, of Washington, D.C., Christine Shansky, of Memphis, TN; ten grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.In addition to his parents and wife, Abe was preceded in death by a son, Rabbi Gary F. Shansky; three brothers, Frank Shansky, Jacob Shansky, and Morris Shansky; two sisters, Faye Kolpon and Ethel Shansky.Visitation will be Friday, November 26, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will be conducted Friday, November 26, 2010, at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rabbi Martin Shorr will officiate.Burial will be in Tifereth Israel Cemetery.
