Alexander S. "Sonny" Temenski, age 79, of Mill Bridge Road, passed away the morning of October 31, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.
Born May 15, 1937 in New Castle, he was the only son of Alec and Mary Owoc Temenski.
Surviving at home is his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth Ann Gibson Temenski, whom he married on December 1, 1962.
A graduate of New Castle High School in 1956, Alex served his country in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962 as an SP4 while in Germany.
He was employed with American Cyanamid, followed by Zonolite, until he took employment with Dale McClymonds Trucking. There, he was a truck driver for 40 years until his retirement in 2006.
Sonny was a wonderful woodworker, refinishing and building furniture and spending many hours in his woodshop. He will be remembered by many neighbors as the neighborhood handyman, always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Roman Catholic by faith, he was a former member of Madonna Catholic Church where he served as an usher. He was a current member of St. Joseph the Worker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Keith Alexander (Jennifer) Temenski of Rhode Island, and Steven Wayne Temenski of New Jersey; two sisters, Carol Black of New Castle and Loretta Umstead of Volant; and four grandchildren, Wayne, Maria Alexandra, Patrick and Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Helen Wyza, MaryJane Kelley, and Peggy Plonka.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A Memorial Service will take place immediately following visitation on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Marsha Parrish officiating.
