Alfred H. "Bud" Black, 89, of 18 Edgewood Acres, passed away June 16, 2013 at his residence. Born September 5, 1923, in Lawrence County, he was a son of Alfred D. and Lula Ward Black.He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Joan P. Boddy Black, whom he married March 29, 1952. Bud attended New Castle High School and served his country during WWII in the Pacific and Burma. From 1955-1998 he was a self employed contractor. Bud was always an avid sports fan, including bowling, golf, and fishing. He enjoyed gardening, but his greatest hobby was carpentry. Owning an R.V. allowed Bud and his family to travel to nearly every state in the United States and into Canada. He especially loved when they traveled to Mexico, England and France. He was a member of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, Joan, he is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Jo Campbell and her husband Scott, of New Castle; two sons, Alfred T. "Jet" Black of New Castle, and Kevin G. Black of Santa Clarita, CA; three brothers, Walter Black and Gerald Black of New Castle, and Donald Black of Colorado; three sisters, Jean Marie McEwen, Roberta Brooks, and Janet Smoot, all of New Castle; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Jennifer Lee Chiafullo; three brothers, Melvin, Gaylord and Merle Black; and one sister, Doris Brooks. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 18, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. and will be officiated by Rev. Chris Weichman of Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church. Full military rites will be performed by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
