Alice K. DeGruttola of New Castle passed away the morning of March 1, 2019 at her home. Born in Austria, she was the daughter of Aladin and Maria (Poch) Nappey. She immigrated to the United States in 1956. She was preceded in death on September 15, 2012 by her beloved husband of 56 years, James P. DeGruttola, whom she married January 5, 1956. Alice, better known as Putzi, was the owner and operator of Putzis Ski & Sports Den in New Castle for 50 years where she was present every day until the end. Skiing was her passion, often skiing many places not only in the United States, but all over the world. Putzi often attended the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup races, the premier circuit for alpine skiing competition. Putzi was a beloved staple in the community and in the world of skiing. Putzi was a voracious reader and spent much of her time poured over books and enjoying the company of her family. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Josef Kneisl, and a granddaughter, Kendra Kneisl, all of New Castle. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. A private blessing service for the family was held at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. with Father Joseph McCaffrey officiating.
