Allene M. Poulain, 104, of New Castle passed away the morning of March 16, 2017 at Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born in Ellwood City on July 4, 1912, she was a daughter of Clarence and Emma Majors Richardson.
On December 23, 1932, she married Harry Poulain. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1959.
Mrs. Poulain was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City. She was a homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother. She was employed at the Jameson Hospital cafeteria and was a former waitress. She enjoyed yard work, flowers, reading, traveling, quilting, and loved a good conversation on the phone. She was a member of First Christian Church in Ellwood City.
Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Burdett of New Castle and Phyllis Poulain of Tionesta, PA; two sisters, Jean Cooper of New Castle and Julian Anne Klevich of Chippewa, PA; two granddaughters, Michele Burdett and Sherry Emanuele; a grandson, James L. Poulain; and one great grandchild, Corey Emanuele.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a son, Harry Poulain, Jr.; a son-in-law, Don Burdett; seven brothers, Howard, Harry, Ken, Bud, Lee, Ralph, and Robert Richardson; and a sister, Rosetta Richardson.
In her later years she enjoyed her stay at Golden Hill Nursing Home, where she made many friends and brought a lot of joy to everyone with her wit and her beautiful smile.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 10-11 at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Andrew Jillson of Northminster Presbyterian Church officiating.
Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery in Ellwood City.
