Allene M. Poulain, 104, of New Castle passed away the morning of March 16, 2017 at Golden Hill Nursing Home. Born in Ellwood City on July 4, 1912, she was a daughter of Clarence and Emma Majors Richardson. On December 23, 1932, she married Harry Poulain. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1959. Mrs. Poulain was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City. She was a homemaker and a wonderful wife and mother. She was employed at the Jameson Hospital cafeteria and was a former waitress. She enjoyed yard work, flowers, reading, traveling, quilting, and loved a good conversation on the phone. She was a member of First Christian Church in Ellwood City. Survivors include two daughters, Joanne Burdett of New Castle and Phyllis Poulain of Tionesta, PA; two sisters, Jean Cooper of New Castle and Julian Anne Klevich of Chippewa, PA; two granddaughters, Michele Burdett and Sherry Emanuele; a grandson, James L. Poulain; and one great grandchild, Corey Emanuele. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; a son, Harry Poulain, Jr.; a son-in-law, Don Burdett; seven brothers, Howard, Harry, Ken, Bud, Lee, Ralph, and Robert Richardson; and a sister, Rosetta Richardson. In her later years she enjoyed her stay at Golden Hill Nursing Home, where she made many friends and brought a lot of joy to everyone with her wit and her beautiful smile. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10-11 at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation at 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Andrew Jillson of Northminster Presbyterian Church officiating.
