Anna Louise Cohen, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 25, 2015 in Worthington, Ohio. She was born January 30, 1930 in New Castle, PA to the late Lewis and Margaret Weinberg. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Aaron Cohen; her brother, Milton Weinberg; and brother-in-laws, Leo Cohen and Jack Goldberg. Anna is survived by her sister, Shirley Goldberg of Shaker Heights, Ohio; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Joe and Karen Cohen of Lakewood, NJ; daughter Ava (David) McKean of Columbus, Ohio; three sons, Harvey (Louise) Cohen of Boston, Mass, Ralph (Tisa) Cohen of Madison, WI, and Louis (Vickie) Cohen of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Sarah, Robert, Leah, Alison and Abbey; and dozens of nieces, nephews and cousins. Music played a prominent role throughout Anna's life. Anna loved to perform as a singer, dancer, clarinetist and pianist during her childhood in Weirton, West Virginia. Anna made an appearance at the age of 11 on a Steubenville, Ohio radio station, earned a music scholarship to West Virginia University and sang on a Cleveland television station's talent competition. Upon moving to New Castle in 1957, she continued her involvement with community theater projects. None of which was more memorable than her performance as Fruma Sarah in Fiddler on the Roof. Her ongoing love affair with music brought joy to all and served as an inspiration to her entire family. Anna was also extremely active with New Castle's Jewish Community and spent tireless hours working as a Sisterhood member for Tifereth Israel and Temple Hadar Israel. She made hundreds of friends during her 30-year career working at three different drug stores in downtown New Castle. Picking up a prescription was always an entertaining experience. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 28, from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rabbi Howie Stein officiating.
