Obituary

Anna Mae Kerr, 96, of Ellwood City, passed away the morning of September 13, 2017 at her residence. Born April 5, 1921 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Charles and Martha English McCandless. She had the most beautiful smile and often would laugh so hard she would start to cry. She was preceded in death on September 3, 1998 by her husband of 57 years, Loyal E. Kerr, whom she married January 30, 1941. A Shenango High School graduate, Anna was a homemaker, enjoying taking care of her 12 children. She also helped to raise her grandchildren. In earlier years, she loved to ice skate and roller skate as well as sewing, gardening and canning. She enjoyed playing the organ, often for her church. Anna was a member of the Grange and the Laurel Travel Club. A lifetime member of Center Presbyterian Church, Anna attended the Lois Morris Circle and sang in the church choir. She is survived by her four daughters; Carol Briand of Everett, MA, Judith Ansell of Friedens, PA, Susan Legault and Cynthia Kerr of New Castle; five sons; David Kerr of Ellwood City, Kenneth Kerr of Wesley Chapel, FL, William Kerr of Janesville, WI, James Kerr of Bonita Springs, FL and Richard Kerr of Philadelphia; one sister, Sarah (Sally) Hamilton of Knoxville, TN; 35 Grandchildren, 30 Great-Grandchildren, and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Beverly Tomb; two sons, John and Samuel Kerr; two sisters, Clara and Grace McCandless; two brothers, Charles and Robert McCandless; and two grandchildren, Dale F. Tomb, Jr. and Jeannine Porath. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23, from 11:00-1:00 with a 1:00 funeral service at Center Presbyterian Church, 1143 Center Church Road, New Castle. Rev. James Bibza and Rev. Matthew Bupp will officiate. Burial will be in Center Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Allegheny Hospice and Meals on Wheels. Arrangements are by the R.
