Argero ""Audrey"" Pananos, was born August 6th, 1919, in Rhodes, Greece to Fr. Yiannis and Presbytera Paraskevi Hatziantoniou. In 1951, she immigrated to Farrell, PA, where Audrey and her husband Nick had two children and were active members of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church for many years, eventually moving to Grove City, PA. Throughout her life, she always put others ahead of herself and was quick to volunteer, when help was needed. In her later adult life, she lived with her son, his wife, and 3 granddaughters whom she was instrumental in raising and consider their ""yia yia"" to be their hero and inspiration.In 1997, Audrey retired to Rhodes, Greece where she was able to enjoy the beautiful climate, gardening, walking to monasteries, visiting with old family and friends and watching her grandsons and great grandsons grow. At 94 years of age, she returned to the USA, which she referred to as the ""best country in the world,"" to spend a most wonderful final year surrounded by family. Everyone she knew benefited from her skill, receiving various homemade treasures from a perfect pan of baklava to beautifully crocheted blankets, which she was still making during the last year of her life. She was a great hostess and particularly looked forward to planning wonderful meals to be enjoyed by her loved ones. Audrey was a very kind-hearted and positive person, who loved life and was a devoted and faithful servant of the Greek Orthodox faith. She was loved by all who had the privilege to know her and will be dearly missed.On September 17th, 2014, Argero Pananos passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. The family wishes to thank Celtic Hospice of New Castle and Dr. James Gardner, for the care and consideration shown to Audrey. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Pananos; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her son, Peter (Janet) Pananos; her daughter, Betty (Paraskos) Diakanthou; her granddaughters, Audrey Pananos, Evie (Christo) Simoudis and Nicole (Dino) Mitsos; her grandsons, George and Nikos Diakanthou; three great-grandchildren, one sister and by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.Visitation will be held at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd, New Castle, PA 16105 on Thursday, September 18, 2014, from 4-7 p.m. with a Trisagion service at 6 p.m.Funeral Service will take place on Frida, September 19, 2014, at 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church of New Castle, 315 W.
