Obituary

Arthur C. Harlan, 79, of 3608 Ellwood Road, New Castle, passed away the morning of January 17, 2013 at Edison Manor. Born October 15, 1933, in New Castle, he was a son of David M. and Florence L. Aiken Harlan. He was preceded in death in December, 1991 by his first wife of 35 years, Joan A. Harlan, whom he married January, 1956. He subsequently married Lois J. Weingartner Houk on August 11, 1994. Arthur was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1993 from A.R. Oliastro, Inc., after 17 years as a heavy equipment mechanic.He was a life long resident of Lawrence County, and loved the outdoors. He was a member of the Church of Genesis, where he was a van driver. In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by two sons, Timothy J. Harlan of Conway, PA and Paul A. Harlan of Salisbury, MD; a step-son, Alan W. Houk of Bessemer, PA; a step-daughter, Sandy Isabella of New Castle; one brother, Lloyd Harlan of New Castle; one sister, Ethel Hogue of New Castle; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Harlan; a sister, Louise Fisher; a step-son, James J. Houk; and a step-granddaughter, Justine Isabella. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Church of Genesis. A Memorial Service will be held immediately follow visitation Sunday at 3:00 p.m. The Rev. Ron Eade will officiate. Burial will be in Locust Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Genesis, 303 N. Cedar Street, New Castle, PA 16102. Arrangements are being handled by the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc.
