Arthur 'Art' Lee Towne, age 81, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Dec. 12, 2021, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born Aug. 22, 1940, in Middlefield, OH, he was the son of the late Carl and Eloise (White) Towne. On June 15, 1963, he married his beloved wife of 58 years, Audrey (Peterka) Towne. She survives at home. Art was a graduate of Cardinal High School in Middlefield, Ohio. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Marietta College in Petroleum Engineering. Art was an Area Manager employed by Columbia Gas, retiring in 1995. He was involved in several organizations such as, The Rotary Club, including group study exchanges, United Way, Meals on Wheels, Girl Scouts Organization board member, Lawrence County Community Band, The New Castle Playhouse and Mission Barn board member. Art also loved volunteering at Jameson Hospital as a patient escort, cooking dinners for the local Lions Club and retired teachers' luncheons. Art loved taking pictures of nature, traveled extensively, cross country skiing, riding bikes and playing the trombone. He was a dedicated member of Grace United Methodist Ministry where he was a member of the choir and went on several missions' trips including ones that served those effected by hurricane Katrina and the tornados in Kansas. In addition to his wife, Art is survived by his daughters, Sheri (Eric) Horcick of Huntsville, AL and Traci Towne of New Castle, PA; and three grandsons, Carl, Steve, and Ben Horcick, all of Huntsville, AL. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Beth Puzder and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Visitation will be held on Thurs. Dec. 16th from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will take place immediately after visitation, at the funeral home, at noon with Pastor Darryl Lockie officiating.
