Barbara L. Avery, 73, of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 16, 2021, at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Barbara was born in New Castle on July 30, 1947. She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert J. Avery, whom she married March 25, 1979. A New Castle High School graduate, she was employed by the former Fisher's Big Wheel as a seamstress, clerk and bookkeeper. Barbara enjoyed crafts, especially making purses. She was a former member of Second United Presbyterian and more recently, New Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Danielle Johnson, of Prospect, PA; three step-children, Robert Avery, Jr. of New Jersey, Dianna (Romish) Carr and Tina (Edward) Knapp all of Albany, NY; two grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 17, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
