Barbara Ann Seltzer Buckner, 78, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of February 28, 2019 at her home. Born June 21, 1940 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Edward J. and Dorothy (Scherer) Seltzer. Barbara is survived by her husband of 58 years, John B. Buckner, whom she married on October 15, 1960. A 1958 graduate of Union High School, she was a bookkeeper with Seaboard Finance Company. She was a homemaker by heart and spent most of her time raising her three boys and keeping them busy. She often said she raised four boys and her husband only raised three. Barbara attended Epworth Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, John B. (Bethany) Buckner, Jr., Thomas J. Buckner and Carter A. (Joy) Buckner, all of New Castle; one brother, Robert Seltzer; four grandchildren, Amber Lillian Jennings and husband AJ, PO2 Ian Lloyd Buckner US Navy, Emma Kathryn Buckner, Owen Patrick Buckner; two great-grandchildren, Lillian Marie and Lyza Elizabeth Jennings; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janet Seltzer Nolder. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends while enjoying life to its fullest. The family extends a special thank you to the support of the Quality Three Rivers Hospice. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 3, from 2:00-5:00p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place Monday at 11:00a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. William LaVelle, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to church of donors choice or the Lawrence County Humane Society.
