Obituary

Barbara E. Kunselman, age 86, of New Castle, passed away the morning of July 29, 2022, at Atria Personal Care Home in McCandless, PA. Born April 8, 1936, in Natrona Heights, PA, she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Margaret F. (Gosser) Shaner. On June 9, 1956, she married her beloved husband of 66 years, James M. Kunselman. He survives in McCandless, PA. Barbara was a 1954 graduate of Leechburg High School. After graduation, she went on to attend Robert Morris Business School. For several years Barbara was employed by Allegheny Steel Corporation working in production control. She also worked as a bank teller for First Federal Savings and Loan for 17 years. Barbara served over 10 years as treasurer with Wimodausis as well as Eastern Star #105, New Castle, where she was Worthy Matron. She also served as Past Worthy Matron with the VWM #130, Mercer. Barbara formerly attended Epworth United Methodist Church where she served as a treasurer of the United Methodist Women. More recently she was a member of Northminster United Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husband, Barbara is survived by four sons, Timothy J. (Terry) Kunselman of McCandless, PA, Brian E. (Barbara) Kunselman of Red Lion, PA, Randy J. (Amy) Kunselman of New Castle, PA, and Richard A. (Marsha) Kunselman of Jefferson, GA; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Shaner, one sister, Virginia H. Greenawalt and one great grandchild, Christian. Public visitation will be held on Monday, Aug. 1, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A private family service will take place with the Rev. Jordan Rimmer officiating. Burial will be at Castle View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be offered to the Cathedral Foundation, 110 E. Lincoln Ave., New Castle, PA 16101 or to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2434 Wilmington Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
