Bernard David Seiler, Sr., 89, of New Castle, passed away the evening of August 21, 2014 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.Born June 10, 1925, in New Castle, he was the son of George and Elizabeth Benning Seiler.Bernard married the former Betty Jane Stoner on August 5, 1949. She survives.He served his country in the South Pacific during World War II in the U.S. Navy as an electrical technician on LST 569.Bernard was a master cable technician for Bell Telephone of Western Pennsylvania for 43 years.A member of Telephone Pioneers, he enjoyed golf and had a hole-in-one. He also enjoyed walking, fishing, hunting, following the Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Bernard was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.In addition to his wife of 65 years, Betty Jane, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Steven Lawrence of North Versailles, PA, and Cheronne Elaine Martongelli of Casselberry, FL; two sons, Bernard D. Seiler, Jr., of North Versailles, and K. George Seiler of New Castle; 11 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and three brothers.Visitation will be Monday, August 25, 2014, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to King's Chapel United Methodist Church, 861 Old Pulaski Road, New Castle, PA 16105.
