Berneice Shaffer passed away the morning of December 31, 2022 at her daughters home in Portersville, for a joyful reunion with her heavenly family.

She was born in New Castle on March 16, 1933 to Clyde Houston and Bertha (Smith) Houston.

She worked at the Highlander Movie Theater, starting as a ticket girl and working her way up to manager.

She married Loyal Shaffer on December 12, 1953. He preceded her in death in 1981.

She is survived by her daughter: Jan McClymonds, 6 grandchildren: Tiffany London, Ashley Miller, Dan McClymonds, Andrea Patton, Luke Shaffer and Katie Shaffer, 7 great grandchildren: Leslie, Drake, Bridger, Hudson, Sterling, Logan and Rhett and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Rose Shaffer.

She was a Presbyterian and 59 year member of Oak Grove Church in Portersville, where she belonged to the Woman's Association and Rainbow Quilting Circle She was very active in her church family.

She loved to create beautiful things with her hands, quilting, sewing and crocheting. She was the embodiment of the Proverbs 31 woman, and used her wisdom to give faithful, often witty advice to her family. Her descendants are truly blessed to have had her in their lives for so long.

She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas and her siblings: William Houston, Alice Alborn, James Houston, Howard Houston and Bernadeen Houston.

Visitation will be held on Sat. Jan. 7th, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.

A funeral service will take place, at the funeral home immediately after visitation, at 4:00 PM, with Pastor Judy Wilson officiating.

Those on earth should not mourn her passing but rejoice at the heavenly reunification that we will all have with her someday.
