Bernice M. Hilke, age 87, of Union Township, passed away the afternoon of June 9, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 21, 1932 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of William and Eunice (Caldwell) Smith. She was preceded in death on July 9, 1990 by her husband, Ted Hilke, whom she married November 13, 1948.
After attending New Castle High School, Bernie was a homemaker, enjoying raising her four daughters.
Bernie loved her dogs and enjoyed camping, but her greatest joy was being with her family. She was a long time member of the former First Christian Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Beverly (Craig) Mazur, Joyce (Larry) Dillon, Bonnie (Keith) Lemmon and Carolyn (David) Wagner, all of New Castle; 5 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lorraine Turner, Vivian Leasure and an infant sister, Orabelle Smith; one brother, Wallace Smith; one grandson, Jason Lemmon; and her fiance' Nick Acquillo.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Matthew Bupp officiating.
Burial will be in Castle View Cemetery.
