Bernice M. Trent, age 95, formerly of Southpoint at Jameson, passed away the evening of September 10, 2016 at Avalon Nursing Center. Born December 15, 1920 in New Castle, she was the daughter of John W. and Maude Holliday Miller. She was preceded in death on July 9, 1995 by her husband of 54 years, John R. "Jack" Trent, whom she married on August 23, 1941. After graduation from New Castle High School, she attended New Castle Business College. Bernice was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for Conn Welding for 10 years and the Castle Arms Hotel for 12 years, until her retirement in 1990. She was active with Eastern Star #440, serving as Past Matron and with the Martha Shrine #14, serving as past secretary. She also was a member of Wimodausis, the United Commercial Travelers and the Country Side Home and Garden Club. She enjoyed crafts and bowling. Bernice was a member of First Assembly of God. She is survived by two sons, David L. Trent of Columbus, Ohio and Timothy L. (Debra) Trent of Washington, PA; five grandchildren, Andrew and Lindsay Trent, Megan and Scott McGee, Brittany and Tom Coon, Matthew and Lindsey Trent and Brianne Trent; and seven great grandchildren, Deegan Martin, Tyler DeLong, Trent DeLong, Brady Worth, Connor McGee, Lucianna Coon and Kendall Trent. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Chad Stoecker officiating.
