Obituary

Bettie L. McMillin, 87, formerly of Leawood Drive, New Castle, passed away the night of August 23, 2016 at UPMC Jameson. Born June 26, 1929 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Clare M. and Thelma Roberts Lutz. Bettie was preceded in death on July 31, 2012 by her loving husband of sixty two years, Jack E. McMillin, whom she married on September 10, 1949. During her high school years at New Castle High School, she was a cheerleader. She enjoyed being a homemaker, wife and mother, and was an excellent seamstress. A longtime member of First Baptist Church, she was active as a Sunday school teacher and member of the music committee and kitchen committee. She was the former president of the Christian Women's Club. Bettie, along with her sister Ruthie Lutz, sang with the prison ministry and the City Rescue Mission radio hour. She is survived by one daughter, Mauree Jo (Tom) Luciani of Transfer; one son, Timothy (Debbie) McMillin of New Castle; three brothers, Donald Lutz, Dewey (Florence) Lutz, and Kenneth (Peggy) Lutz, all of New Castle; one sister, Janet (Wayne) McCormick of New Castle; 4 grandchildren, Chris Jevcak, Michael (Erika) Jevcak, Cynthia (Jason) Houston, and T.J. (Sasha) McMillin; and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Eugene Lutz; and two sisters, Ruth E. Lutz and Doris Benke. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 3, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 125 N. Jefferson Street, New Castle. A Memorial Service will take place Saturday immediately following visitation at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Rev. John Yergan officiating and Rev. Nathan Loudon officiating. Burial will be Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the City Rescue Mission, 319 S. Croton Avenue, New Castle, PA 16101, or to First Presbyterian Church Music Committee.
