Betty L. Higgins, 92, of New Castle, passed away the afternoon of October 9, 2019 at Quality Life Services. Born September 28, 1927 in Everson, PA, she was the daughter of Weimer and Martha (Echard) Bair. She was preceded in death on February 23, 1965 by her husband of 18 years, Merrill J Higgins, whom she married on August 3, 1946. Prior to being a homemaker, Betty was employed with Shenango China and Nepco. She was a member of Independent Methodist Church. Betty was an avid reader, enjoyed camping and watching the Steelers. Most important to her was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two daughters, Judy Coole and Barbara (Bruce) Chappell of New Castle; two sons, Richard (Janet) Higgins and Kenneth Higgins also of New Castle; one sister, Mildred (Ettore) Gagliardo of New Castle; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by one sister, Dolores Donofrio; one brother, Weimer H. Bair and one son-in-law, David Kuczynski Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 13, from 2:00-6:00 pm. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Frederick H. Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
