Betty J. Karns, 81, of New Castle passed away on January 29, 2018 at her residence. Born on March 7, 1936 in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of Paul and Regina Sallmen Durlesser. She married Edward H. Karns January 17, 1959 whom preceded her in death on October 28, 1988. She was a graduate of New Castle High School. Betty was employed with the Lawrence County Assistance Office for over 14 years. She was an active member of First Alliance Church where she held various offices. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and, most of all, enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Betty is survived by three daughters, Sharon (Bradley) Jacobs of Burns TN, Susan (Steve) Slack of Spring Hill, TN and Sallie (Carl) Hahn of Aiken, SC; two grandsons, Matthew Jacob and Seth Slack; and one granddaughter, Jenna Slack. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother, Arthur P. Durlesser. Visitation will be held Friday, February 2nd at 10:00 a.m. to noon, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., New Castle, PA. Funeral services will be at noon on Friday, February 2nd, at the funeral home, with Pastor Philip Harrison officiating.
