Betty G. Niemi, 88, of New Castle passed away the morning of Aug. 24, 2011 at Jameson Hospital North.Born Aug. 8, 1923 in McKeesport, she was the daughter of Andrew J. and Frances M. Hopton Hobby.Betty married Ernest Niemi April 25, 1943. He passed away Nov. 21, 1992.A homemaker, she enjoyed watching sports on television.Betty was a member of New Hope Wesleyan Church.She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Tom Kephart of Beaver, PA, Doreen and Ernest Derekos of New Castle, and Sandra and Rick Fee of New Castle; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Bonnie Niemi of North Park, FL, and Ronald and Marsha Niemi of New Castle; two brothers, Andrew Hobby of McKeesport, and Rev. Dr. Clark Hobby of New Castle, Indiana; two sisters, Eva Andersen of North Versailles, PA, and Audrey Trent of Wilmington, DE; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Hobby and Albert Hobby; and one sister, Minerva Anderson.Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd., New Castle.Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at the funeral home. The Rev. Gary DeWitt of New Hope Wesleyan Church and the Rev. Dr. Clark Hobby, Betty's brother, will officiate.Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
