Betty L. Riggans, 80, of New Castle, passed away the evening of March 4, 2011 in Jameson Hospital.Betty was born January 8, 1931, in New Castle, to the late Frank and Geraldine Abernathy Frisbee. She married John "Jack" E. Riggans, Sr. on May 3, 1952. He survives. Betty was a devoted homemaker, who dedicated herself to caring for her youngest son, Scott, as he contracted spinal meningitis during infancy. She enjoyed fishing and playing bingo. An avid Pittsburgh sports fan, she cheered for the Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. Betty lived for spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Wayside Emmanuel Church.In addition to her husband, survivors include her two sons, Randall W. Riggans and John E. Riggans, Jr.; four grandchildren, Kristina Riggans, Emily Riggans, John E. Riggans III, and Melissa Allane Conley; and three great grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie Ann, and Maddox Conley, all of New Castle.She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott Riggans; a brother, Donald Frisbee; a sister, Mary Thomas; and a daughter-in-law, Virginia L. Riggans.Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A service will immediately follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Pastor Hope Cummins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to John E. Riggans, Sr., in memory of Betty, 620 Medure Lane, New Castle, PA 16101.
