Betty G. Shaffer, 87, formerly of King Avenue, went to be with her heavenly Father, the afternoon of March 11, 2013 at Jameson Hospital. Born November 25, 1925, in Pulaski, PA, she was a daughter of Robert C. and Ethel C. Huff Johnston. She was preceded in death on June 30, 1988 by her husband, Russell J. Shaffer, whom she married on December 26, 1941. Betty attended Ben Franklin Jr. High School. She was employed for 20 years as a cashier supervisor at K-Mart where she retired in January, 1988. She was a member of the German Beneficial Union and a member of Mt. Hermon Church. Survivors include two daughters, Sheila (Robert) Fry of Boardman, Ohio and Carol (Curt) Wertz of New Castle; one son, Larry (Joanne) Shaffer of New Castle; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Houk. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2013, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Friday, March 15, 2013 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place on Friday, March 15, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home and will be officiated by Rev. Ash Welch. Burial will be in Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
