Betty Jean Stephenson, 86, formerly of Neshannock Township, passed away the night of August 31, 2022, at Shenango on the Green in New Wilmington, PA.

Born May 9, 1936, in Oley, PA, she was the daughter of Joseph Savage Hoover and Helen M. (Stoeber) Hoover.

She was preceded in death on December 19, 2018, by her husband of 60 years, James E. Stephenson, whom she married June 14, 1958.

Betty was a graduate of Oley High School in 1954 and continued her education at West Chester University where she achieved her bachelor's degree in music education.

Her musical talent and love for the violin lead her to perform for 6 years with the Cincinnati Symphony and 27 years with the Houston Symphony Orchestra.

She was a member of Wimodausis and Challenges Silver Sneakers. Reading, exercising and playing her violin were among her many interests. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Ministry.

Betty is survived by a brother, Joseph Savage Hoover, Jr. and a nephew, Richard (Carolyn) Hoover of North Huntingdon, PA and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hoover; a sister, Helen Hoover; 2 nieces, Judith Marketich and Shirley Lockhart; and a nephew, Edward Hoover.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022, from 1-4 pm. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A Funeral Service will take place immediately following at 4:00 pm with Pastor Darryl Lockie, Rev. Frederick H. Gilbert and Rev. John Yergan officiating.
