Betty A. Truran, age 93, of Ironwood Assisted Living, formerly of Bon Aire Avenue, New Castle, passed away the night of February 29, 2016 at Briarfield Manor in Austintown, Ohio.
Born January 10, 1923 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Henry G. and Sadiebel Duncan Sumner.
She was preceded in death on October 7, 2007 by her husband of 60 years, Edward R. Truran, Jr., whom she married March 20, 1947.
Betty was a 1941 graduate of Shenango High School and was a homemaker.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed shopping, and most important were the times spent with her family. Betty was a former member of Hoover Heights C&MA Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Crawford "Ty" Tyree of Austintown, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Ann Sumner of New Castle; two grandchildren, Roy and Ryan Thillberg; two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Vitor Thillberg; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Charlotte Yough and her husband Jack; one brother, David Sumner; one sister-in-law Jean Crowley and her husband Bud.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following the visitation at 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
