Beverly J. Harlan, 77, of 518 Gardner-Center Road, New Castle, passed away the morning of February 13, 2012 at Jameson Hospital.Born July 1, 1934 in New Castle, she was a daughter of Harry and Grace Prior Houk. She married Herbert Merle Harlan on June 5, 1951. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2003.She attended Princeton School and received her Associates Degree from the Shenango Valley School of Business.Beverly, along side of her husband, enjoyed farming. She drove school bus for the Laurel Area School District and most recently was employed as a health care worker with the Area Agency on Aging.She was a member of the Paws and Taws, the Tri-County Western Music Association, the Happy Bunch, and taught 4-H square dancing.Beverly enjoyed square dancing, knitting, quilting, sewing, reading, and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren.She was a member of Princeton Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir, was an elder, served on the Board of Trustees, and helped with the church dinners. She also attended the Wednesday morning Bible study group.She is survived by four daughters, Debra J. Harlan, Lou Ann Axe, and Donna Jackson of New Castle, and Judith Hare of Pensacola, FL; one brother, Russell Houk, Sr. of New Castle; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ruth Bowers.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Cheryl Waguespack will officiate.
