Beverly L. Houk, 91, of 4 Bellaire Drive, Apt. 8, New Castle, died the morning of April 20, 2010 in Allegheny General Hospital.Born September 4, 1918 in New Castle, she was a daugher of James S. and Sadie Ort Shaffer.She married Robert I. Houk on September 26, 1941. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1989.She was a graduate of Lincoln High School.Beverly was employed as a car hop with Smith Dairy and later worked the lunch counter at G.C. Murphy's. She then was a lunch lady at Lockley Elementary School.She was a member of Jameson Junior Guild where she enjoyed sewing. She was also a member of Sparklers and enjoyed jig saw puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting and knitting.She was a life member of New Hope Wesleyan Church.Survivors included two daughters and sons-in-law; Judith and Raymond Karns and Laurie and Robert DiGia all of New Castle; two grandchildren, Scott and Jodi Karns and Lindsey and Michael Vatter of New Castle; and one great granddaughter, Chellsie Karns.Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Gary DeWitt will officiate.
