Obituary

Beverly Jean Nicolls, 85, of Fairhill Dr., New Castle, died on Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, after a long struggle with dementia. Beverly was born Nov. 29, 1930 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of Chester R. Nicodemus and Florine E. Massett. She graduated from North High School in Columbus in 1948 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Ohio State University in 1952. On Mar. 22, 1953 she married Atty. Donald J. Nicolls in Columbus, and they made their home in New Castle. Before her marriage she worked as a medical technologist in Zanesville, OH, and afterwards at St. Francis Hospital in New Castle. Beverly was an active member of the Tri-M Sunday school class at Clen-Moore Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. For many years she was a member of the Jameson Junior Guild, sewing items for their annual bazaar and working in the gift shop. She was also a member of the Walmo Garden Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed playing tennis, square dancing with the New Castle Paws and Taws, reading, sewing, doing crossword puzzles, and listening to classical music. She is survived by her husband Donald; two sons Bruce(Cindy) of DuBois, PA, and Dale of Poland, OH; two daughters, Beth of Cleveland, OH, and Barbara of New Castle, PA; two grandchildren Ian Nicolls of Denver, CO, and Hillary (Jonathan) Wildt of Chicago, IL; a sister Elece Ash of Lancaster, OH. and a sister-in-law Mary Nicolls of Columbus, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother Darell Nicodemus. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 19th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, August 20th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will immediately follow visitation Saturday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Chris Weichman officiating. Burial will be at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
