Burdell P. McCurdy, 78, of New Castle, passed away the morning of October 21, 2010 in Jameson Hospital.Burdell was born in Frizzleburg, PA on August 3, 1932 to the late Francis and Mildred Pearson McCurdy. On October 16, 1953, Burdell married Anna Fobes McCurdy. Anna and Burdell just celebrated 57 years together. Burdell was employed with LTV Steel Mill as a crane operator for 38 years. He loved outdoor activities. He spent much of his time hunting, fishing, and gardening.Burdell was a member of the Wayside Emmanuel Church.He is survived by his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Darrel Main of Ellwood City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Michelle McCurdy of Pittsburgh and Jay and Sherri McCurdy of Florida; four grandchildren, Heather Karns, Travis McCombs, Lynn Brown, and Thomas McCurdy; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyler Karns, Jordyn Karns, Zoe McCombs, Sapphire Brown, Dusty Brown, Tracy Pugh, and Shailah Pugh.In addition to his parents, Burdell was preceded in death by a sister, Laura Hunt.Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at the funeral home with the Rev. Randy Crum officiating.
