Obituary

Burliegh "Whitey" Post, Sr. age 90, of New Castle, passed away early the morning of Jan. 24, 2022, at his residence. Born Oct. 11, 1931, in Mauston, WI, he was the son of the late Nicholas M. and Mabel L. (Nelson) Post. On July 4, 1958, he married his beloved wife of 63 years, Rebecca "Becky" (Heasley) Post. She survives at home. Whitey was a graduate of Mauston High School. He faithfully and proudly served his country during the Korean War, in the United States Navy. During his enrollment in the Navy, he played basketball and was an avid boxer. Whitey enjoyed being a handyman and was known to his family and friends as "Mr. Fix-It". In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, playing fast pitch softball, and had the privilege of playing against the King and His Court. In the last several years, he enjoyed making arts and crafts, and creating "Whitey's Wall". Whitey was known for his generous heart, and he demonstrated that by often giving away his most treasured crafts, his Christmas ornaments. What gave Whitey the most joy in life, was spending time with his family. For 28 years, he was a machinist for Lockley Manufacturing. Whitey also worked as an independent roofer for 50 years. He was a member of Shepherd's Lighthouse Church. In addition to his wife, Whitey is survived by his children, Niki (Dr. Kevin) Moore, Cindy Post, Burliegh (Nancy) Marty Post, Jr., all of New Castle, PA, and Wendy (Jimi) Iannizzotto of Lancaster, PA; two brothers, Robert Post of Mauston, WI, and Lawrence (Shirley) Post of Middleton, WI; brothers-in-law, Joe (Pat) Heasley, Dan (Bev) Heasley, both of New Castle, PA; sister-in-law, Gretchen (Don) Dover of New Castle, PA; 15 grandchildren, David (Devon) Dugan, Andy (Molly) Dugan, Ryan Dugan, Kristie Kusnierczyk, John "JB" Burliegh Kusnierczyk, Cody Post, Casey (Georgia) Post, Korilyn (Chris) Lepri, Richard (Erin) McCune, Jr., Samantha (TJ Rice) McCune, Mikel Post, Bailey Post-Raeburn, Frank (Amy) Moore, Erin Moore, Kayla (Kris Dovidio) Moore; 17 great-grandchildren, Dillon, Nolan, Rowan, Caroline, Troy, Zachary, Alauria, Ketron, Zoe, Alex, Maggie, Aiden, Austin, Alayna, McKaylee, Kenzie, and Charlotte; and several nieces, nephews and friends, who are like family. Along with his parents, Whitey was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, John, Bill, and Delmar Post, his sister, Carol Josephson, and his mother-in-law, Jessie Copple. Visitation will be on Thurs. Jan. 27th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A service will take place immediately following visitation at 7:00 PM with Pastor David Puffer of Shepherd's Lighthouse Church officiating.
