It is with sadness and joy that we announce that the Lord has called his faithful servant Calvin Irvin "Irv" McMurray to his final home. Irv, as most people knew him, passed on July 1, 2013 at his home as he requested, after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 15, 1933. Irv was married for almost 60 years to Helen Marie Jones who survives along with their children, Susan Elaine McMurray King (New Castle), Russell Eugene McMurray (New Orleans) and Jeffrey Alan and his wife Sherry McMurray (New Castle). Grandchildren are Denise Harlan Cook and husband Jason, Shawn King Sr. and wife Dee, Karen Sue Anderson and husband Kris, Brian McMurray, Patrick McMurray, and Tiffany McMurray, all of New Castle, Irvin also had 7 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews who will sadly miss his wisdom and understanding. Also surviving are a sister, Zelda McMurray Artz (Arlington, VA), and two brothers, Gail McMurray (Conneaut, OH) and Harry McMurray (Slippery Rock, PA). He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Lewis McMurray (1999) and Clare Novilla Neely McMurray (1996), as well as a daughter Karen Lee McMurray (1968) and a sister Charlotte Fisher (2008). Irvin began his work history as a truck driver before going to serve his country in the Army as an MP in Panama during the Korean War. After completion of his obligation Irvin worked as a truck driver for Chutz Bros. Coal Company of Slippery Rock and Clover Leaf Coal. He soon began McMurray Trucking which was owned and operated as a family business retiring in 1994. Not only did he spend much of his retirement time enjoying and working at his father's sawmill, he was an avid Oliver Tractor enthusiast, and enjoyed working on and talking about "Olivers". He was an active member of the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society, a very active member of Neshannock Presbyterian Church and was a trustee for many years, a member of the American Legion and was involved at the Lawrence County Fair with Antique 1/2 scale Case steam tractor. Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 2, 2013, from 5-9 p.m. and Wednesday, July 3, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Waguespack officiating. Burial will be at Neshannock Presbyterian Cemetery. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will conduct military rites.
