Carl R. Alexander, 87, of 211 W. Moody Avenue, Apt. 213, New Castle, formerly of Wampum, passed away the morning of September 7, 2011 in Golden Hill Nursing Home.Born January 7, 1924 in New Castle, he was a son of Frank Oscar and Sidney Miller Alexander. He married Frances M. Mann on August 2, 1947. She survives in New Castle.He was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1942 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy on the Battle Ship USS West Virginia during World War II.Carl retired after being a salesman for 50 years with Kohlmann Beverage of East Rochester and Paul's Beverage of New Castle.He was a member of Clinton Methodist Church in Wampum and enjoyed golfing in his spare time.In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Kelley of New Castle; one son and daughter-in-law, Ray Scott and Ginnie Alexander of New Castle; one sister, Betty McCune of Independence, Missouri; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Anna Mary Gailey and Dorothy Wyman.Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Dave Alleman will officiate. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites.Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
