Carl L. Dengler, Sr., age 94, of West Pittsburg, passed away the afternoon of June 24, 2017 at UPMC Jameson Hospital. Born October 15, 1922 in Slippery Rock, Pa, he was the son of Fred W. and Sarah L. Downs Dengler. Carl was preceded in death in May, 1981 by his wife of 34 years, Gloria M. McNutt Dengler, whom he married on March 16, 1947. A New Castle High School graduate, he served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII as a PFC, receiving the Purple Heart. Carl was employed with Pentex as a core maker for 28 years until his retirement in 1980. A member the Eagles #455 Nest and L.O.O.M. 51 Lodge, he was also a member of AARP. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and various sports. He was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. He is survived by his companion of 43 years Gladys Klenotic; one daughter, Carlene Whipkey of Scottdale, PA; a son, Carl L. Dengler, Jr. of Greensburg, PA; a brother, Clifford Eugene Dengler of New Castle; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fred W. Dengler and four sisters, Thelma Reitz, Viola Shira, Mildred Antilla, and Sara Wright. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 11:00-1:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation on Thursday at 1:00 pm with Rev. John Yergan officiating. Military rites will be performed by the New Castle Honor Guard.
