Carl O. Keagy, 94, of Jameson Care Center, passed away the night of July 31, 2012 at Jameson Hospital.He was born in Altoona, PA on August 21, 1917 and was married to Helen L. Lewis Keagy who preceded him in death on September 8, 2001.Carl was a high school graduate and attended the University of Pittsburgh for two years.He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp as a pilot with the 386th Fighter Squadron. His plane was shot down over Germany and he became a prisoner of war. He received the purple heart award for injuries sustained during his active duty.Carl was employed for 42 years with Bell Telephone as an assistant traffic superintendent.He was a member of the Masons and an avid hunter and fisherman.He attended Highland Presbyterian Church.He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara C. and Richard Gitzug of Tarboro, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce A. and Sherry Keagy of New Castle; two grandsons, Matthew Keagy and Ryan Keagy; and his companion, Charolette Whiteman.At Carl's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alvera Curry.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Avenue, New Castle, PA 16105.Arrangements are by the R.
