Obituary

Carol A. Davis, 63, of Summitview Dr., New Castle, passed away at her home the morning of August 12, 2010.Born Oct. 27, 1946 in New Castle, she was the daughter of the Joseph C. and Virginia D. McClellan Tanner. Carol is at peace after a courageous year long battle with cancer.She married her childhood sweetheart, Richard "Dick" Davis on Jan. 3, 1962, and has enjoyed 48 years of marriage.Carol was the co-owner and office manager of Precision Plating Company, Inc. for over 25 years from where she retired in 2009. She also worked in the housewares department and the cosmetics counter at the former Strouss Department Store.She enjoyed aerobics for many years at the Y.M.C.A. As a member of the New Castle County Club for over 35 years, she was an avid golfer in the Ladies Golf Association, playing in many golf tournaments and events. She achieved a hole-in-one with three iron in 1992.Carol enjoyed shopping with her friends and will be remembered by all those who knew her for her great sense of style. She had a wonderful group of friends who will miss her deeply. She adored all of her cats and took the time and effort to care for them all everyday. She had a deep love for her family and a kindness and generosity that will always be remembered.The family would like to especially thank her sister, Charleen, for unselfishly giving her time, support and love to us all over this difficult time.She had an enormous amount of courage and determination to beat her cancer by participating in clinical trials to help others with the disease. The family would like to thank Hospice of Jameson Hospital for their support and all of her doctors here and at UPMC hospitals in Pittsburgh.In addition to her husband, Dick, Carol is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard (Rick) and Michelle Davis of New Castle and Todd and Melissa Davis of Boardman, Ohio; a grandson, Ricky Davis; two brothers, Joseph C. Tanner of Elkton, MD, and Robert G. Tanner of New Castle; and three sisters, Linda Schwerin of Surprise, AZ, Charleen Micco of New Castle, and Deborah Wenger of North Augusta, SC.She was preceded in death by her parents.Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 13, 2010, at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the funeral home. The Rev. Dennis Bupp will officiate. Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence County Humane Society, P. O. Box 62, New Castle, PA 16103.
