Carol J. Smolnik, 91 of New Castle, passed away the morning of June 12, 2024, at the Haven Convalescent Home.

Born on April 24, 1933, in New Castle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Cecil (McMullen) Kemp. She married William E. Smolnik on September 1, 1951. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Carol was a graduate of Lawrence County Vo-Tech. She was employed as a nurse at Northside Hospital in Youngstown, OH, for several years, until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, the beach, and most of all spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three daughters, Holly (Lloyd) Rodgers of Franklin, PA, Marsha (Tom) Penwell of New Castle, PA, and Sheree (Glen) Gray of Wilmington, NC; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald and Leslie Kemp and one sister Vivian Domen.

Visitation will be held on Mon. June 17th 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd., New Castle.

A funeral service will be held immediately following visitation, at the funeral home, at 4:00 PM.
