It is with great sadness that the family of Carol J. Welker announces her passing after a lingering illness on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the age of 82 years.
Carol was born on March 24, 1936, in New Castle, to the late Francis Earl and Laura Loretta Bupp Morris. She began working, as a teenager, at a local Dairy Bar as a drive-in waitress. She received her GED and went to work for the G.C. Murphy Company as a clerk. She managed the "Fresh Cookie Counter" and wore many hats. Inevitably , she was promoted to the corporate office as an auditor and traveled to the many branches throughout the tri-state area.
Upon marrying her now deceased husband, Robert W. Welker, they moved to Altamonte Springs, FL and soon opened their own greenhouse. Carol was the office manager until the business was sold many years later.
She and her husband were very active in their church and hosted monthly Bible study meetings for large groups of church friends. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her pies and cakes were famously enjoyed by all who visited. Her family and their children celebrated holidays and birthdays together leaving everyone with fond memories of their shared time. Her home was always filled with family and friends, laughter and love.
She is survived by her 2 step sons and step daughters-in-law, Ronald and Pamela Welker, William and Jean Welker, all of Apopka, FL; 2 sisters and brother-in-law, Sandra and John Galanski, K. Valjean Fleeger, all of New Castle; one niece, Angel L. DeChellis and husband Shawn of Ambridge, PA; 2 nephews, Chadwick E. Dean of Atlanta, GA, Wesley R. Dean of Grand Haven, MI; one great niece, Lydia N. Dean of New Wilmington, PA; one great nephew, Robert K. Dean of Alpharetta, GA; 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in passing by her sister, Loretta M. Morris Slater.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Rd. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00 pm at the funeral home. Rev. Dennis Bupp, Carol's first cousin, will officiate.
