Carolyn J. Heasley, 80, of Neshannock Township passed away the morning of October 2, 2020 at UPMC Passavant Hospital. Born October 17, 1939 in New Castle, she was the daughter of Edward J. Kelley, Sr. and Genevie E. (McKay) Kelley. Carolyn served in the U.S. Women's Army Corps (WAC) from 1957-1959. She then graduated from the Lawrence County Vo-Tech where she had training as an LPN. She was a homemaker until she gained employment with the former Indian Creek Nursing Home and Avalon Nursing Center until her retirement. Carolyn was involved in several organizations including LARK where she served on the board of directors and president of the ladies auxiliary; the board of directors for LCARC; the Mental Health/Mental Retardation Board; and the IU4 Unit of Grove City board of directors. She was instrumental in starting the Special Olympics in Lawrence County. Carolyn also served on the election board for precinct #3, Neshannock Township. An active member of King's Chapel United Methodist Church, she served as the outreach chairperson and chairperson for the drive through nativity scene. She also served as vice president of the United Methodist Women. Carolyn will be remembered as a very caring and loving person, always ready to help anyone in need. She was a devoted mother to her son and others with special needs. She is survived by one son, James W. Heasley of New Castle; two brothers, Edward J. Kelley, Jr. of New Castle and David L. Kelley of Cartersville, Georgia; four sisters, Janet Criscito and Debra Pauline of New Castle, Marilyn Spellman of North Jackson, Ohio and Catherine Noring of Bradford, PA; many nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews to whom she was a second mom. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Frank R. Kelley, Sr., paternal grandparents Edward J. and Jinnie Fishlock Kelley, and maternal grandparents, William and Maude McClure McKay. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 6, from 11:00-1:00 at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A private family funeral service will take place following the visitation at 1:00 with Rev. John Yergan officiating. Burial will be in Castle View Memorial Gardens.
