Carroll Jean Shaw, age 84, formerly of New Castle, passed away, with her loving family by her side, the evening of December 28, 2025, at Sunnyview Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Butler, PA.
Born July 30, 1941, in New Castle, she was the daughter of Robert George Dix and Madalynne Vixcetta (Earle) Dix.
She was preceded in death on Nov. 21, 2024 by her husband of 60 years, Ronald Lewis Shaw, whom she married May 29, 1964.
Carroll was a graduate of New Castle High School and received her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Westminster College, where she was an adjunct professor of English. She was employed as a secretary with Westminster as well as Citizen's Bank, Rockwell International, and Attorney Bob White.
She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church for sixty years, where she served as a deacon and elder. Carroll also volunteered with Challenges. Among her many interests, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and reading, but her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren and family.
Carroll is survived by one daughter, Marcie Lynne (Richard) McConnell of New Caste; two sons, Ronald Paul (Melissa) Shaw of Doylestown, PA and Robert Kory (Julie) Shaw of Wilmington, NC; and six grandchildren, Madeline (James), Rachel, Cameron, Caleb, Sydney, and Logan.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Judith.
Visitation will be held on Sat. Jan. 10th from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place immediately following visitation at noon, with Rev. Jordan Rimmer, of Northminster Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery.
